Blog Post 5.
Okay, this is the final blog post. Finally! Now it’s time to reflect on my experience with this whole project.
This whole process of this project was definitely not easy for me at all. I never really enjoyed writing really long research papers/essays because I’m not really good at putting this into my own words sometimes. For other classes, the teacher would just tell us to write a research essay and that was that we were on our own. For this class there was a lot of peer review and drafts that we had to do which was honestly super helpful because we got feedback from our peers and from our professor! I really like how we were practically being set up for success from day one because it wasn’t just oh we have to do a research essay mid semester, it was introduced to us very early on so we had a lot of time to prepare for the final.
My topic at first was just how the pandemic affected children/kids. The reason why I chose this topic was because of nephew and seeing how he’s been dealing with the pandemic really hit me hard so I wanted to research more about how children have been dealing with the pandemic and how I can help. As I wrote more about my topic and researched more about my topic, it changed to how the pandemic has affected low-income children more specifically rather than only “children”. I didn’t even realize I was talking more about lower-income children until my peers/professor told me so they were definitely the ones that made me realize that I should just focus on low-income children since most of my writing does focus on their struggles. My new goal was to learn about the struggles of low-income children and their families during the pandemic because the struggles I’ve personally dealt felt like nothing compared to what they’ve been dealing with.
This class genuinely helped me improve my writing process. I never really saw the importance of drafts but this class made me learn that writing drafts and improving that draft is very beneficial for the final product. I also really liked how we were able to choose our own topics that we were passionate about and not just a random topic our professor assigned us to do that we don’t want anything to do with. Overall, I really appreciate this class and what it helped me with.
